- Boneless, skinless chicken breasts – Provides the tender, juicy foundation for all the toppings
- McCormick Season All – Creates a perfect savory crust and enhances the chicken’s natural flavor
- Bacon – Adds smoky, salty crunch that contrasts beautifully with the tender chicken
- Mushrooms – Contributes earthy flavor and meaty texture that complements the chicken
- Colby Jack cheese – Offers the perfect melt and mild, creamy flavor that ties everything together
- Fresh parsley – Adds bright color and a fresh flavor contrast to finish the dish
- Prepared mustard – Provides tangy sharpness as the base of the signature sauce
- Honey – Contributes natural sweetness that balances the mustard’s sharp notes
- Light corn syrup – Adds smooth sweetness and creates the perfect sauce consistency
- Mayonnaise – It creates creamy richness and helps bind the sauce ingredients together
If desired, you can substitute the Colby Jack Cheese with Monterey Jack Cheese or Cheddar Cheese.

How to make Alice Springs Chicken
- In a small bowl, stir mustard, honey, corn syrup, and mayonnaise until smooth and free from lumps. The corn syrup may be adjusted depending on how sharp the mustard might be or to your taste.
- Rub chicken breast with Seasonal-All seasoning salt and marinate for 1 hour.
- While the chicken is marinating, cook the bacon until crisp and drain.
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat with enough oil to prevent the chicken from sticking to the pan.
- Place the chicken in the heated pan and cook it on both sides until slightly golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the pan.

- Spread chicken breasts with honey mustard, cover with a layer of mushrooms and three slices of bacon, and then sprinkle with shredded Colby/Jack cheese (the chicken should be covered with shredded cheese).
- Bake in a heated oven at 350°F or microwave until the cheese melts.
- Garnish with parsley.
- When you serve pour the honey mustard over the chicken.

What to serve with Alice Springs Chicken
Make your meal complete with green beans, French fries, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, pasta, or rice. This flavorful chicken tastes wonderful with steamed, air-fried, or grilled vegetables. Try serving it with Oven Roasted Asparagus or Air Fryer Broccoli.
You can also serve it with freshly baked dinner rolls or bread.
Since the chicken is so divine, your side dishes don’t need to be overpowering in flavor. You can always drizzle some honey mustard mixture over the rice and veggies; it tastes phenomenal.

How to Store & Reheat Your Leftovers
- Reheating Method: Reheat in 350°F oven for 20 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165°F. Microwave reheating is acceptable, but the oven method preserves texture better.
- Refrigerator Storage: Store completely cooled leftover chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
- Freezing: Freeze in an airtight container for up to 3 months for the best quality and texture when thawed.

Expert Tips for Perfect Alice Springs Chicken
- Pound chicken to even thickness: This ensures even cooking and more tender meat
- Don’t skip the marinating time: Even just an hour makes a huge difference in flavor penetration
- Cook bacon until extra crispy: It will maintain better texture under the melted cheese
- Use freshly grated cheese: Pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents that prevent proper melting
- Let chicken rest before assembly: A 5-minute rest after cooking helps the chicken retain its juices
- Save some sauce for serving: The extra honey mustard for dipping takes this dish to the next level
- Check chicken temperature: Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken reaches 165°F for food safety
Ive been making this for about 10 years. Instead of regular mustard, use Dijon like outback does. Also omit the season salt, and onion powder. The marinade should have only Dijon, honey, one Tspn oil, juice of one lemon and a pinch of salt and pepper. Sauté fresh mushrooms and it will make it taste better. Great dish, always a hit! Love it with roasted or mashed potatoes
I used dijon mustard instead of prepared and I marinated my chicken in the dressing for about 4 hours along with the season all, it was amazing.
Delicious. Had i not made it myself i would have thought it was takeout from OUTBACK.
This recipe has gone into my family’s menu rotation. We liked it that much.
So easy, and delicious. Will make again.
This is my daughter’s favorite. Thank you for the recipe.
If you don’t want to bother with the honey mustard homemade the Ken’s Steakhouse Honey Mustard tastes exactly like the Outback honey mustard. I tend to use it instead. I saute fresh portobello mushrooms in a bit of the bacon grease too.
Great call on the honey mustard. I love the Ken’s Salad dressings.
I am sorry but I didn’t catch what you are marinating the chicken in? Can someone help? thx
I used Lawry’s seasoned salt as I already had it on hand. French’s mustard works great with any mayo and then the honey. I make honey mustard sauce without the corn syrup, use it all the time for chicken dip. My family thought this was delicious and a fraction of the cost of dinner at the Outback. Served with grilled asparagus and ciabatta bread slices. About $12.00 for dinner for four.
This was an awesome recipe! I always order this when we go to Outback because I don’t eat steak. The honey mustard was delicious, but I had to add extra honey and corn syrup because it was too mustardy. I omit mushrooms because I don’t like them. We’d loved this and will make it again soon.
I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe. I hope you try more recipes.
This tastes EXACTLY like the one at Outback! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for this. I will be picking up 40 pounds of chicken (boneless, skinless chicken breasts from Zaycon Foods on Nov 2nd) and need some different recipes so everyone doesn’t cringe with “chicken again” .
I’m happy I won the chicken but really happy to find recipes like this to keep “changing things up”
I don’t remember there being mushrooms on Alice Springs Chicken…hmmmmm.
there are mushrooms on it.
I don’t remember there being mushrooms on Alice Springs Chicken…hmmmmm.
Yes there are mushrooms.
Made it for dinner tonight and it was great.
tweaked the mustard sauce how ever.
just swapped out the corn syrup for agave necter-and a little real maple syrup.
to make it a little healthier.
came out great!!
I’m really excited to try this recipe, but I’m having a hard time finding McCormick Season All. Do you have any suggestions for a substitution?
I would just use another type of seasoned salt.
I love this recipe! I always receive many compliments on this one.
What is prepared salad mustard?
Is is the mustard that you would put on a hamburger. Mustard also comes in a dry powdered form. I hope this helps! ~Stephanie
Made this tonight for dinner. It is the only thing my daughter will order at Outback. It was great and tastes just like the restaurant. I would recommend that more Honey Mustard dressing be put on the chicken breasts. It was delicious!
This tastes just like Outbacks. And it is soooo freakin yummy!
