Starbucks Matcha Green Tea Frappuccino Easy Copycat Recipe

Want to enjoy your favorite Starbucks drink without leaving home? This matcha green tea frappuccino delivers all the creamy, refreshing goodness of the original with authentic matcha powder and a perfect balance of sweetness. What makes this drink special is its lower caffeine content compared to coffee-based frappuccinos, making it an ideal afternoon treat that won’t keep you up at night.

Why This Recipe Works

The secret to an authentic matcha frappuccino lies in using high-quality matcha powder rather than regular green tea. Matcha is finely ground whole tea leaves, which gives the drink its signature vibrant green color and concentrated flavor. By blending the matcha with ice, milk, and sweetener, you create the same creamy, slushy texture that makes Starbucks frappuccinos so irresistible.

Ingredients

  • High-quality matcha powder – Provides the distinctive earthy flavor and vibrant green color that defines this drink
  • Whole milk – Creates the creamy base and helps balance the matcha’s natural bitterness.
  • Vanilla syrup or sugar – Sweetens the drink and enhances the overall flavor profile
  • Ice cubes – Essential for creating the signature frappuccino texture
  • Whipped cream – Adds richness and makes the drink feel like a special treat
  • Additional matcha powder – For dusting on top as an attractive garnish

If you can’t find matcha at your grocery store, I have seen it available at Costco. Matcha can be a bit pricey, so you may want to incorporate it into other recipes.

I have purchased matcha on Amazon: Jade Leaf – Organic Japanese Matcha Green Tea Powder, Classic Culinary Grade (For Blending & Baking) – [30g Starter Size]

This is my favorite Starbucks product , I have been drinking these for three years , and have spent a ton of money on them , I will try your recipe in comparison to the green tea frappes I make at home , very similar recipe except I use milk instead of ice cream , so I will for sure have to try this instead , just have to make a note to buy the ice cream , thanks , I look forward to trying this …

If you’re sensitive to caffeine you should be cautious with matcha powder. The caffeine content in matcha powder is higher than steeped green tea.

Would you consider doing on on Starbucks’s limited edition Cherry Blossom Frappe? It’s super good, and only available till this coming sunday. (3-20-16).

I always see this drink at Starbucks and wonder how it tastes, but not enough to pay $5 to try it! Now I need to try it at home and see what I think. Looks delicious. – Katy
